Public relations. And writing. And websites. And internal communication. And trade shows…and more!

When we’re presenting proposals to Marketing Directors, we focus on the PR side of what we do – The creation of stories to pitch to the press, the follow up work, the content creation, the selling in, all of which contributes to generating press coverage raising awareness of the organisation.
It has occurred to us recently however that we perhaps don’t spend as much time as we should explaining about the other work we do which is integral to the success of PR campaigns.
Our clients see us as part of their team, we work with them to get under the skin of their company and to completely understand their products and services, not only so that we can present them to the media effectively, but so that we can really help them achieve their aims.
PR is an essential part of the marketing mix and the sales process, but without knowing what’s happening behind the scenes, it’s difficult for us to really understand how the work we do impacts on the company.
Below are a few examples of just what we’ve been up to!
This week we’ve attended a trade show to get to know our client’s sales team properly. This has meant we’ve been able to get to know them personally, to explain how we can work with them to open doors for them, find out from them exactly how we can help them, get input on case studies for the press and find out from them how the work we’ve done has already paid off.
We drafted an email for a client to send to their customers announcing a new appointment at the company, reassuring them about the changes to their account processing.
We put together a social media plan covering all social media activity for the next three months for a client to sign off and pass to their team to implement.
We’ve been researching target audiences for a particular sector to ensure we’ve got up to date information about the right people to contact at the right media instead of relying on media databases alone.
On top of this, we’ve written two articles, drafted and issued press releases, put together comment for a veterinary magazine, completed sell in calls to journalists who are relevant to our client’s story and written briefs for a designer for a client’s website which we will also be writing.
It’s possible that the ‘non-PR’ activity isn’t seen as a core part of our role but this activity is absolutely essential to ensure that the media work we do is working cohesively with the other activity that our clients are working on, we can see how it impacts on the company and that we are clear that we are working effectively with our clients.
