And the award goes to…

Award season is in full swing, seems like you can’t turn around without someone brandishing a shiny statuette and why not, winning an award is quite an achievement.
Having said that, your time is precious so how do you choose which awards are worth entering?
We’ve worked with various companies over the years helping them with their awards entries and (ahem!) even won one or two ourselves.
Despite some cynicism, entering and winning awards is worthwhile. It recognises your achievements as a business, presents great opportunities for PR exposure in your trade, local or national media and is a morale booster for staff who can see that their contribution to the success of the company is paying off. It’s also a good way to attract new customers and new staff, after all, working with or for an award-winning company is an attractive proposition.
Having said that, not all award schemes are worth the logo you put on your website. Some of them are just a popularity contest and sometimes, a money-making scheme for the organisers. Here are a few things to watch out for:
- Check the details very carefully. If you read the small print and it mentions anything about paying to enter, steer clear
- If the award merely tells you to nominate yourself and then get your contacts to vote for you on social media, again, it’s not based on your achievements, simply on how popular you are
- If you get something in the post that tells you you’ve been shortlisted for an award but you have to pay to attend the ceremony, again, it’s simply a money making scheme. You might get to use the logo on your site, but you’re better spending your time on entering more credible, recognised awards
Award schemes that are worth entering, are more rigorous:
- They will ask for a detailed explanation about your business, your purpose and your history
- They will usually ask for a business plan and your plans for expansion
- They will often give you at least one free ticket to attend the award ceremony
It is worth looking at awards schemes in your industry or in your local area, it’s a great opportunity to raise your profile, shout about your success and reward your team for their hard work and can even help you attract new clients.
And if you don’t have the time to invest in completing them, give us a shout! Awards
